A new residential area was built in the Eicken district of Mönchengladbach in the immediate vicinity of the Eickener Markt. As the oldest district of Mönchengladbach, Eicken was once an inner-city commercial area, which, however, increasingly turned into a residential area due to increasing housing requirements.
The site of a former clothing factory between Schwogenstrasse, Flenkenweg and Eickener Strasse has been developed into an attractive residential area close to the center. This made a significant contribution to strengthening the Eicken district center, especially with regard to stabilizing the social structures and the existing supply facilities.
The district at Eickener Markt is characterized by a spacious block structure that includes seven point houses and a row of buildings. A building to close the edge of the block was built along Schwogenstrasse. A total of 113 apartments with sizes between 40 and 120 square meters as well as a daycare center with two groups were created.
The buildings are kept in white, interrupted by window and balcony elements. This is how they appear three-dimensional. The greenery contrasts in color. Around 130 residential units ranging in size from 40 to 120 square meters as well as a daycare center with two groups were built. Its location and the architecture, which allows for diversity inside and out, create a well-rounded district.
