The 1,200 qm Fritz Schmitz menswear store was completely redesigned, transforming what had been a conventional, enclosed building into an open, transparent structure. A 450 m² glazed façade was added in the sales area, extending from the ground floor to the second floor. The transparent design is intended to draw attention to the sales area and improve the presentation of the goods to the customer.
The starting point for the alterations was the client’s request for an energy-saving concept. An intelligent façade system featuring panes of insulating glass interspersed with solar protection slats also makes for considerable energy savings. Moreover, while the interplay of light and shade can change both the interior and exterior appearance, the overall look of the building is always harmonious, whatever the light conditions and the position of the slats.
